There is a paradox at the heart of
America’s history of involvement with the Middle East.
At the first glance, it seems as if policy has frequently been based on shaky
foundations, policy has often seemed to reflect domestic political forces more
than calculations of national interest and at times the execution of policy has
seemed clumsy (Brown,2001). America and Middle East relationship began after
cold war when USA want to spread the global capitalism and prevent the
communism, as we know that on the cold war era America fight with USSR in case
of ideology. In Middle East at that time the majority is Syiah meanwhile they
are also applied communism as their ideology. Regimes closely aligned with
America, such as that of the Shah of Iran, have been swept away by bitterly anti-American
forces. American power has often seemed unable to protect American interest, as
during the long ordeal when American were held hostage in Lebanon and Iran, and
secretaries of state have been known to cringe at the thought of devoting more
time and energy to the seemingly hopeless task if peacemaking between Israelis
and Arabs.
Saudi Arabia has
close defense and security ties with the United States anchored by
long-standing military training programs and supplemented by ongoing high-value
weapons sales and new critical infrastructure security cooperation and
counter-terrorism initiatives (Blanchard,2015). Its all start with
oil cooperation among them, meanwhile US and Saudi Arabia is interdependence
each other. US needs oil in order to survive their countries and as we know that
Saudi Arabia is the countries who have big reserve oil in the world, it can
reach 15% oil in the world even they can produce around ten million barrel per
day of oil means that USA needs this country which have big reserve of oil. In
the other hand, as we know that USA is one of the superpower country which have
good military and security system, while Saudi Arabia as the middle east
country that sensitive of conflict they are needs USA’s help to fulfill their
military needs. So, USA and Saudi Arabia are similar or needs each other.
On 1930 King Abdul Aziz accept millionaire
from USA to maintain natural resources which is oil in KSA. Their cooperation
starts from 1938 by rising up of Aramco. Aramco’s help always come step by
step from USA, because of it Saudi has transformation where in the first as the
recipient of help to be the contributor foreign aid because of oil. Then it
continue to 1980 where Arab government take control of Aramco from USA and on
1988 they officially full control Aramco without USA. On 1993, all the oil
process was given to Aramco in order to control and maintain oil of Saudi
Arabia.
Aramco finally success brought name of Saudi
by wider the export and the awards that they got. Some awards that already got by number 1 in the world in crude oil reserves, crude oil
production, sustained crude oil production capacity, crude oil exports and
natural gas liquids (NGL) exports, number 4 in world gas reserves: 234.5
trillion cubic feet as of year-end 2003, number 8 in worldwide refining
capacity which is 3.4 million owns and operates the world's second largest tanker
fleet and number 1 oil company in the world for the 16th straight
year, according to Petroleum Intelligence Weekly OSPAS Project.Aramco now a day already has a branch on several
countries. Which are China, Egypt, Greece, Netherland, Philippine, North Korea,
Singapore, Uni Arab Emirates, UK and US. Aramco also already sign the agreement
of cooperation with Japan and China Sinopec
with the big project. Sinopec will import oil minimum 50 million ton per year
from Saudi.
Some challenges
that faced by ARAMCO, while they are looking for a visualization partner that
would like to help them without changing or touching what that they have been
done even they already have the automatic software. The challenge
was three fold. It was about the physical aspects of having a seamless display
wall from floor to ceiling and wall to wall in a curved setting, covering more
than 210 square meters that needs to run for 24 hours, 7 days a week in the
most reliable way. Secondly, this wall contains more than 196.5 million of
discrete pixels that need to be driven in a controlled and correct way. The
third challenge was the content on the wall itself. It needed to visualize
hundreds of data points real-time in a single process view aggregating
different legacy systems covering hundreds of data points and visualizing them
dynamically, while integrating video(Barco,2006).Aramco has the Operations Coordination
Center (OCC) which is part of Saudi Aramco's Oil Supply Planning and Scheduling
(OSPAS) Department. According to Adel H.Al-Dossary as the OSPAS Manager, he
said that OSPAS is a central planning organization that manages and optimizes
hydrocarbon system capacities and inventories to deliver quality products to
the customer at the right time and right place, with maximum net revenue to
Saudi Aramco.
